AUKUS deal prioritises US, UK subs over Australia

Australia’s acquisition of nuclear-powered submarines under AUKUS will play second fiddle to America and Britain’s own programs, sparking fresh warnings that the navy risks being left without submarines.

Treaty documents made public after being tabled in parliament on Monday allow the US and UK to pull out of the deal with just one year’s notice if assisting Australia poses an “unreasonable risk” to their own military needs.
